Team LottoNL-Jumbo attempts to put Groenewegen in position to no avail

Team LottoNL-Jumbo couldn’t sprint for the win in Paris-Tours. Coming in thirteenth, Amund Grondahl Jansen was the best rider of the team. Dylan Groenewegen became nineteenth behind winner Matteo Trentin.

With twenty kilometers to go, two small climbs caused the peloton to split up. From that moment, Team LottoNL-Jumbo tried to go for the sprint with Groenewegen, but the pace in front was too high. Grondahl Jansen was the only rider who could jump to the chasing group.

Sports Director Merijn Zeeman: “We rode for Dylan. It’s too bad we couldn’t sprint to a top result. We had high goals, but we weren’t able to realize them. It was the first time Dylan started in this race. He survived the climbs well, so that gives opportunities for the future.”

Groenewegen: “We were in front of the peloton the entire race. But on the penultimate climb the best three riders escaped from the peloton. We couldn’t close the gap anymore. My legs felt good, but I noticed I fell short on the climbs compared to today’s best riders.”
