Bert-Jan Lindeman successfully defends blue jersey in Tour de Pologne

Bert-Jan Lindeman has won the blue jersey in the Tour de Pologne. Team LottoNL-Jumbo’s 28-year-old rider attacked in two stages of this WorldTour-race and took the price for the most active rider. Unfortunately, Antwan Tolhoek lost his KOM-jersey to the Italian Diego Rosa. His teammate Wout Poels won the last stage of the Tour de Pologne.

Sports director Grischa Niermann was satisfied with the race’s outcome. “We knew that it would be difficult to keep the KOM-jersey”, he stated afterwards. “Antwan Tolhoek had 35 points, but you could score 70 points in this final stage. Furthermore, Antwan attacked in the two previous stages, so that made it more difficult.”

Nevertheless the team was again represented in the breakaway. “Daan Olivier was in the leading group for a long time. So we showed ourselves in every stage. Unfortunately, the escapees didn’t get much space just as in the other stages of this Tour de Pologne. With an advantage of two minutes, it was impossible to go for the stage win.”

Despite that, Bert-Jan Lindeman took the blue jersey. “He had two competitors in the final stage, but he defended his jersey well. So I’m happy about the race’s outcome. We shouldn’t forget that for most of our riders this was the first race after the high-altitude stage in Austria.”
