A combative Koen Bouwman has stranded in sight of the finish in the eight stage of the Giro d'Italia. The 24-year-old Dutchman, part of the breakaway of the day, saw his attempt thwarted one kilometre from the summit of the final climb to Montvergine di Mercogliano.
