Dylan Groenewegen again fourth in BinckBank Tour

After his fourth place in the first stage, Dylan Groenewegen also finished fourth during the third stage of the BinckBank Tour. In Ardooie Team LottoNL-Jumbo’s 24-year-old rider couldn’t prevent Peter Sagan from winning his second stage. Lars Boom is currently sixth in the general classification.

Groenewegen’s fourth place didn't come as a surprise for him at all. “I’m a bit disappointed, but in the first stage I already noticed that I lack some speed after a tough Tour de France. Furthermore, the finish was quite hectic today”, he explained. “It’s not a surprise after such difficult grand tour. We will see if I will be able to improve a bit the coming days. Other sprinters like André Greipel and Marcel Kittel also have some problems, so I’m not the only one in that regard. I want to win of course, but if that isn’t possible, I'll just have to deal with it.”

Nevertheless, the sprint preparation went as planned. “It was good indeed”, confirmed the sprinter. “Timo Roosen took a long run in the end. I was settled well, but the attack of Drucker changed my odds. About 300 metres before the finish there was a gap, but I thought it was too early. Afterwards, I couldn’t compete for the victory. Today it wasn't possible to score a result better than fourth place. I feel better than in the first stage and it provides some perspective. I have one more chance in this race.”
