Groenewegen fourth after close sprint in Tour of Britain

Dylan Groenewegen finished fourth in the fourth stage of the Tour of Britain. Team LottoNL-Jumbo’s 24-year-old rider could compete for the victory in the sprint, but missed the podium in the end as he ended-up fourth.

Groenewegen had a better feeling after today’s stage. “I think that we’ve done well today”, he concluded. “Three kilometres before the finish we positioned ourselves on the right side of the peloton. Unfortunately, Van Hoecke had to go too early, but I wasn’t badly positioned at all.”

Nevertheless, Fernando Gaviria crossed the line first. “He wasn’t stronger”, Groenewegen thought. “I maybe sprinted faster, but I couldn’t take the victory in the end. The sprint was going well. The preparation towards it was also great, but it has to be perfect if you want to win. Despite that, we mustn’t forget it is the first time that we sprinted in this formation. So this result isn’t bad at all. I’m already looking forward to the coming days.”
