Lars Boom finished eighth in general classification BinckBank Tour

Lars Boom ended up eighth in the general classification of the BinckBank Tour. Team LottoNL-Jumbo’s 31-year-old rider showed himself in front during the final stage. By doing so, he claimed a top ten position in the general classification. Boom finished 21st in the stage.

His teammate Jos van Emden tried to escape several times in the final, but he didn’t get much space. “I knew that I couldn’t keep up with the favourites at the Muur van Geraardsbergen”, he stated afterwards. “I missed some speed. So I tried to attack several times before the Muur van Geraardsbergen. I hoped that they would give me some space, unfortunately that wasn’t the case. But if you don't try, you don’t win.”

Lars Boom showed himself at the first passage in Geraardsbergen in particular. “My teammates worked very well”, Boom said afterwards. “By doing so, I saved much energy. I was ambitious and tried to make a difference. Eventually, I finished eighth in the general classification. Furthermore I won a stage, so I will return home with a good feeling.”

Van Emden, on the other hand, was disappointed. “I missed a great opportunity in the time trial. I rode very well and I was close to the victory. Afterwards I had two sleepless nights. You don’t get that many opportunities. It will take some time to process that disappointment. Notwithstanding, I have a good feeling which is promising for the coming races.”
