LottoNL-Jumbo ignites Halle-Ingooigem race

Team LottoNL-Jumbo attacked continuously but ended empty-handed in today’s Halle-Ingooigem race in Belgium.

The Dutch WorldTour team sent a man with every attempt to force a breakaway. All attempts were left stranded and the sprint teams forced a bunch sprint, won by Arnaud Démare. Amund Grohndahl Jansen finished 16th, best placed Team LottoNL-Jumbo rider.

“We came here without a real leader,” Sports Director Frans Maassen said. “We almost raced like they do in the youth categories. We went full-gas and were in the front every time. We wanted to race like we did, trying to be in the breakaway.”

Maassen did not expect it to be a bunch sprint, but a small group to vie for victory.

“It was very hot today and there were attempts to breakaway all the time,” he added. “We raced well, even if we did not get a good result. If there would have been a breakaway, we could have scored a better result.

“The good side is that everybody had a good opportunity to test his legs towards the nationals on Sunday.”
