Peloton BinckBank Tour surprised by breakaway

Dylan Groenewegen has finished sixth in the third stage of the BinckBanck Tour. In the streets of Antwerp, the 25-year-old sprinter of Team LottoNL-Jumbo won the sprint of the peloton that got surprised by the breakaway. Its riders ultimately battled for the stage victory.

“The breakaway has done really well today. They were really strong. Most sprint teams started the chase too late”, sports director Nico Verhoeven said. “We started riding with BMC quite quickly, but we received too little support in the chase to get it back together for a  bunch sprint. The finishing circuit was also very technical and not really suitable to chase. We have seen today that Dylan is in a good shape winning the peloton sprint. It rarely happens that he loses a sprint when we work for him. We therefore continue to believe in it and we will try again tomorrow.”
