Roglic loses overall lead in the Tour of Britain

Primoz Roglic lost his overall lead to Julian Alaphilippe in the queen stage of the Tour of Britain. The 28-year-old Team LottoNL-Jumbo leader was unable to compete with the Frenchman and stage winner Wout Poels on Whinlatter Pass.

In the overall standings. Roglic slipped to third at 33 seconds from Alaphilippe.

The sixth stage was characterized by the traditional early breakaway that was chased down in the final. Team LottoNL-Jumbo controlled the stage all day for Roglic's lead. On the final climb, Roglic initially was able to follow his rivals, but the Slovenian cracked in the final kilometre.

"Primoz was just not good enough today. We have to be honest about that", Sports Director Jan Boven explained. "Primoz did not start this race 100 per cent and he missed that little bit today. We know that he is capable of doing special things, but today he was not strong enough.

"The team was very strong and we had the stage under control all day together with Quick-Step. We still have three guys in the top 10 so we have to start looking carefully at what the battle plan will be for the last two stages."
