Roglic sprints to third place in mountain stage Tour of Slovenia

Primoz Roglic has done a very good job regarding the overall classification of the Tour of Slovenia. In the tough third stage from Slovenske Konjive to Celje, the leader of Team LottoNL-Jumbo sprinted to the third place, just a few seconds behind stage winner Rigoberto Uran. He’s now third in the overall standings as well.

Roglic was well protected all day by his Team LottoNL-Jumbo teammates and was brought in an ideal position for the ascent of the penultimate climb. The Slovenian attacked three times, but was countered every time. On the wall of Celje, Roglic tried it for a fourth time and seemed on his way to victory, but he got caught in the last seventy-five metres.

Despite this, Roglic was happy with his performance in his own region. “I’m very happy. Before this race, I didn’t know how good I am. I just came back from a long altitude camp and I didn’t race for six weeks. But my third place and my performance today taught me that everything is heading in the right direction regarding the Tour. I attacked a few times, but it wasn’t meant to be. We’ll try again tomorrow and otherwise there’s the concluding time trial on Sunday. I look forward to it. I would like to thank the fans who came to support me today. It was a unique experience. During the whole stage I had goose bumps. My supporters are great.”
