Roglic starts Tour de Romandie with podium place

Primoz Roglic has finished third in the prologue of the Tour de Romandie. The Slovenian conceded only one second to winner Michael Matthews. In the general classification, the rider of Team LottoNL-Jumbo occupies the third place too.

The prologue was only four kilometres long and had a vicious climb at one kilometre before the finish. Roglic was close to the victory, but saw two others finish just ahead of him. “Despite the fact that you always want to win, it doesn’t take away that the third place is also a good result”, sports director Sierk-Jan de Haan said. “It’s something we can build on. Primoz already took an advantage of a few seconds on the favourites. That’s a good thing, considering what is yet to come.”

During tomorrow’s stage, De Haan doesn’t expect any attacks from the favourites. “It won’t be a day for the classification riders. Of course we have to make sure that Steven Kruijswijk and Roglic are at the front at the crucial points of the race. But the goal is to get through the day without any stress. I expect that a group of about sixty men will sprint for the win."
