Strong Bennett regaines strength in third stage Tour of the Alps

Thanks to a strong performance in the third stage of the Tour of the Alps, George Bennett regained a top ten position in the general classification. The New Zealander spent the whole day in the group with favourites and finished fourth in the stage.

In the ascent of the Passo Palade, Bennett was supported by Koen Bouwman for a long time. When the group fell apart, the leader of Team LottoNL-Jumbo rode attentively and subsequently remained in the front of the race. In the descent to the finish, a proper stage result was no longer in danger. Because of his fourth place today, Bennett is seventh in the general classification.

Sports director Grischa Niermann was very complimentary about multiple riders. "Koen was able to assist George for a long time. Enrico Battaglin was also of great value to George. In turn, he was much better than yesterday. We didn’t worry, but of course you always hope to be able to battle for a stage win. Today he showed that he can compete with the best and that he’s in good shape. It was a grueling day despite the short ride", Niermann said.
