Team LottoNL-Jumbo not rewarded for combative racing in Varese

Team LottoNL-Jumbo has not been rewarded for its combative racing in the Tre Valli Varesine. In the semi-classic in Northern Italy, George Bennett, Antwan Tolhoek, Primoz Roglic and Floris De Tier attacked several times in the final of the race.

“It was a hard race and not easy to get away”, Bennett said. “The boys did really well. Especially the young boys were strong and covered a lot of dangerous moves. Then it was up to Primoz and me to attack. I played the agressive role but I never got any freedom from the peloton. Primoz and I worked well as a duo but sometimes you need a bit of luck when the race isn’t too selective.”

De Tier was one of the guys who was frequently covering these moves. “After the early breakaway was reeled in, the plan was to join every dangerous move so that we did not have to chase. We tried to get George and Primoz in the best possible way into the final. That worked out well.”
