Timo Roosen’s tips for training

Team LottoNL-Jumbo’s cyclists know the importance of being prepared for cold and wet weather circumstances whilst training. Here are two tips from Timo Roosen to train comfortably during the winter:

"I have two tips for those who want to cycle during the winter months. The first is to bring plenty of food. When it’s cold, you burn a lot more energy. You ‘hit the wall’ faster in the winter, and standing alongside the road hungry when it’s cold is no fun. I always make sure I can eat at least one bar per hour. Next to that, I always have some sort of energy drink in my bottle. I also bring an extra bar and banana, so I can keep cycling when I’m in the zone.

"Tip 2: I suffer a hundred flats in the winter. You need to bring enough tires with you. Cycling home on a flat tire is almost as bad as finishing your training with the bonk. That doesn’t make a person happy.”
